The truth is that this semester has been very good, the year started with very motivating activities in my life, I lived new experiences during the holidays and I had the possibility to travel a lot. After the previous semester I needed to disconnect from the world (because it had been a bad semester), so it was a very useful period before going back to college. I had many moments in which I questioned the decisions I had made, but finally I understood that they were the right ones. Once the university semester began, I was very afraid because I had to deal with the anatomy and the chemistry again, and I did not know if I could approve them, but the truth surprised me, I had a better academic performance than I expected, (I do not say that has excellent grades, but is quite acceptable.) On the other hand, I have consolidated my group of friends at the university, which in the previous year seemed very fluctuating, since many abandoned the race at the end of the year. I am very happ

If there is something I love in this life, it is eating! What a delicious thing food is, although I'm pretty demanding, I enjoy good preparation. Making the choice of my favorite food is very difficult, but if it is crucial to choose ... I choose the salmon in butter with French fries, just thinking about it makes my mouth water. When I was little, I did not know this dish of gods, it was when I was 17 when I tried it for the first time, I remember that moment perfectly, in the caleta de Angelmó, for my study tour. I'm not one of the people who likes to try different things than I usually eat, but during the tour a friend made me choose that menu, I was going to order chicken with potatoes (which was the other option, because I had ruled the curanto ) and he told me that I could not go south and eat chicken hahaha, so I chose salmon, it was the best decision of the tour. Since then it's the obligatory dish for my birthdays, and every time I want to celebrate somethi

The current semester has been loaded with important events and news, but I would like to talk about one that catches my attention, the complaints of harassment within the church. The current processes have been an important blow to the trust in the church, it was well known that some Chilean ecclesiastical authorities exercised both sexual and power abuses, and certainly the visit of Pope Francisco marked a before and after in this problem. He showed a father totally oblivious to the events, but willing to listen to the victims  and reformulate the Chilean church, establishing concrete measures, with important changes, such as the dismissal of Obispo Barros.  But the repercussions have not only been for the clergy, but they have also questioned Catholics, our religious ideologies and to remain part of the church. At the University of Chile, it is not such an important topic of discussion, in general the fact of being Catholic is respected, but during this year, t

Since the beginning of the race we have been asked to conduct research through the web, and in this post I will tell you what are my main search tools. When I arrived at the university I thought that the search engine that would solve everything was Google, but it is not, the demand made me find new search engines, more efficient and reliable, with more up-to-date and accurate information. Although Google is still a good tool, I no longer use normal Google, I use the schoolar version, for the initial investigations, and familiarize myself with what they have asked for. After this, the pages I use the most are scielo and pubmed, when it comes to research on specific topics of biology or the dental field. And on the other hand, Journal of Dental Research and the IADR website, for more focused research in the dental area. I found these pages by recommendations of teachers and friends. And they have shown that they have what it takes to cover my doubts. Clearly, everythin

My experience with stereotypes

Image
Stereotypes and gender roles are discussion topics at the national level, and more than talking about what each one is about, I want to tell you a personal experience. I think I told them in a publication that I practiced basketball, there came a time when I was called to tests in the national team, but to go to them I had to miss classes, so together with my mom we went to ask for permission to the direction of my school, to avoid future problems, and his response was unusual:  "we can not give permission to go, only men have permission, women are not trained to practice sports professionally, if you want to do it you don´t have our support".   At that time I realized the large number of stereotypes that exist, clearly presented myself equally for the tests, no matter what they told me. How can we ask for a more just, egalitarian and equitable society, if from education we are not capable of demolishing stereotypes? That is why the latest mobilizations seem

A photograph and its story

As I said in previous publications, I am a Catholic, and what I am going to talk about has a small relationship with that. In the image, we are my brothers (only the man is my blood brother, the girls are my best friends, but they are more than that, they are the sisters I choose) and me. The photo was taken for the pilgrimage of the Andes in 2017, the fourth for me, but the first for my brothers, that is the importance it has. In mid-August, I suggested that they accompany me on these 27 kilometers of walking, a tradition for me, that I wanted them to live, so that they would understand my love for her. By the way, they are Catholics, but the idea of traveling those kilometers, under the sun, for a whole day, was not very pleasant for them. After much insistence I convinced them! Natalia, who is the youngest, was terrified, hates walking, and did not think she was capable, and that is why the image is so important to me. It may sound strange, but on that walk, we all learne

Abortion

Image
Abortion is a very complex issue for me, on the one hand, I have my religious ideas in which I defend life from conception to natural death, and on the other hand, I believe in he freedoms of people, and the importance of power deciding on our body. Since the hard discussion of the abortion law began in Chile, I have researched the subject, in order to have a defined position, and although I am catholic and defend life, I support abortion in 3 causal, controversial, I know, probably if it  were up to me, make the decision to perform an abortion or not, I would NOT do it, because I personally could not bear that burden. Regardless of the above, I believe fervently that you can not force someone to follow ideals in which you do not believe, no one can force a woman to have a child she does not want, because the rest do not consider it right, we are owners of our decisions and as such we have the right to choose. Although I don't like free abortion in its entirety, I prefer it

My favorite technological object

Image
I do not consider myself a technological person, in fact, there are times when I feel that I belong to another era, I appreciate the books on paper, the idea of having to search between miles of shelves to find what I need, or having to reveal my photos . But technology has undoubtedly simplified life for us. If I had to choose my favorite technological object, I would choose the digital camera. There is nothing more interesting than being able to portray the most important moments of your life, or everyday things that you would like to capture. Since I was a little girl I became familiar with the cameras, I remember that I had to control the photos I took, because the rolls only allows a limited amount of images. When I started receiving my money, my first investment was a digital camera, and since then I have not stopped, I have my own collection of cameras. The forms of use are varied, from just pressing a button to take the photo, to regulate all the values to get

Why I study odontology?

As I had told you before in my previous post, since I was little girl I really like nature, medicine, biology and handicrafts. And I totally hated mathematics, but against all odds I wanted to be an astronaut. Then I started to really think about what I wanted to do with my life, I thought about entering the PDI, especially homicide departmend, but I hate problems with my back which completely excluded me from the institution. The two previous years to enter the university, were a constant search on what to do in the future, but I completely love the career of dentistry, because it concerned medicine, contact with people and manual skills.  At the time of presenting the application, only I wanted dentistry. At this moment I am in the second year of the career in the University of Chile, and I hope that In the future study the Postgraduate in Dental Care of Patients that requires Special Attention. I am happy with what I study, it has been the best decision that I have taken,

My Autobiograph

My name is Yasna Andrea González Quiroz. I was born in Santiago, Chile, in the “hospital del profesor” on August 27th, 1997. I grew up in the city of Melipilla, specifically in a town called Codigua. Thanks to that, I developed a great love for nature. In my opinion, living in the countryside surrounded by trees, and not buildings is the  best way to grow up. My grandparents brought me up, therefore, I am the pampered in the house. My family is consits of my grandmother Bernarda, my father Manuel  who is a mechanic,  my mother Veronica, who works with my father and the most important member…my brother Adrián, mechanical engineering student. He is my best friend. He is my crazy partner and my everything. Since I was little girl, I really liked biology, medicine and handicrafts. That made me choose dentistry.    Right now  I am a student of dentistry at the University of Chile . Not everything is studying in my life, I  spend my free time  to traveling across my co
